Water supply returning for impacted customers on Ardfinnan Public Water Supply

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann has completed restoration works to the Goatenbridge Water Treatment Plant and the plant is fully operational.

Water supply is now returning to impacted customers on the Ardfinnan Water Supply; however, reservoirs remain at critically low levels and will need time to recover overnight. It may take longer for normal supply to be restored to all customers particularly those at the end of the network or on higher ground, as the reservoirs refill and network recharges.

Pierce Faherty, Water Operations Manager said: “Uisce Éireann acknowledges the disruption that can be caused by an unplanned outage, and we wish to thank customers in the area for their patience while works were underway. We would ask customers in the impacted areas to be mindful that it will take several hours for the reservoirs to fully replenish and for the network to refill.”

To support impacted customers alternative water supplies, in the form of water tankers, will remain in place at the following locations:
•    Ardfinnan National School
•    Grange Village Church
•    Newcastle carpark

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Customers in the following areas were impacted by disruptions to their water supply or low water pressure: Goatenbridge, Poulatar, Newcastle, Ballybacon Grange, Grange Village, Ardfinnan, Ballyea, Roosca, Kilcommon, Barne Lodge, Neddens, Loughryan, Loughlher, Loughtally, Derrygrath, Newchappel, Rathkeevin, Inishlounaght, Nicholastown, Knockloffty, Grauige Group Water Scheme and Castlegrace.

Pierce Faherty, Water Operations Manager has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore supply to those impacted as quickly as possible.

“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and thank customers for their support while our works continue to restore supply. We estimate that up to 5,000 customers may be impacted by this outage. Works will take place across the day in an effort to have the plant back in full operation by this evening; however, it will take several hours for the reservoirs to replenish and for the network to refill.”

Restoration works are expected to be completed by 9pm this evening (Saturday). Typically, it takes a number of hours following the completion of works before water supply is fully restored to all impacted customers, and it may take longer for customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.
