Ramelton, Milford and Rathmullan Sewerage Scheme

Uisce Éireann completes work on upgrading the Sewerage Scheme Network in Ramelton, Milford & Rathmullan Co. Donegal. 

Uisce Éireann, has completed upgrade works to the wastewater network infrastructure in Ramelton, Milford & Rathmullan. This project has now reduced the risk of sewer flooding and addressed non-compliant sewer overflows into the Maggy’s Burn, Fawninoughan Stream, Carn Low, Rossreagh, Glenalla, Craigmaddyroe Far, Carraleena, Crevary Lower, Mill Brook, Ramelton & Lough Swilly. 

The works have also improved the capacity of the sewer network allowing for current and future population growth, and supporting the social and economic development of Ramelton, Milford & Rathmullan and the surrounding area. 

These works have ensured that the treatment of wastewater is fully compliant with EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directives and Wastewater Discharge License Emission Limit Values and has eliminated all non-compliant combined sewer overflows within the area.

• Removal of the discharge of inadequately treated sewage into Maggie’s Burn, improving water quality
• Cleaner water enhances the areas amenity value, particularly in Rathmullan, and contributes towards restoring the Blue Flag status of Rathmullan Beach.
• New pumping stations and a wastewater treatment plant to accommodate an increase in the local population, supporting future growth across the three towns
   

• Construction of a 5,500 PE wastewater treatment plant in Tirrody, Ramelton
• 19 km rising mainsConstruction of marine outfall to Lough Swilly
• Decommissioning of the underperforming plant in Milford
• Construction of a new pumping station at Milford
• Construction of new pumping station at Ramelton
• Decommissioning of septic tank in Ramelton
• Construction of a new local pumping station in Rathmullan to transfer network flows to the new main pumping station in Rathmullan.
• Decommissioning of two septic tanks in Rathmullan
